PS1-STRM: neural network source classification and photometric redshift catalogue for PS1 3π DR1

Robert Beck et al.

Summary: The Pan-STARRS1 (PS1) 3 pi survey is a comprehensive optical imaging survey covering three quarters of the sky, using neural networks trained on spectroscopic data to classify sources and estimate photometric redshifts. The final catalogue contains 2902 054 648 objects, with classification accuracy of 98.1% for galaxies, 97.8% for stars, and 96.6% for quasars on the validation data set.

KiDS-1000 Cosmology: Multi-probe weak gravitational lensing and spectroscopic galaxy clustering constraints

Catherine Heymans et al.

Summary: This study combines weak gravitational lensing observations from KiDS-1000, redshift-space galaxy clustering observations from BOSS, and galaxy-galaxy lensing observations from overlapping surveys to constrain the structure growth parameter S-8, resulting in a discrepancy with the Planck observations by 8.3% relative to Planck. The systematic uncertainties identified through various analyses are incorporated into the cosmological analysis, revealing a tension in the matter fluctuation amplitude parameter, sigma(8).

KiDS-1000 catalogue: Weak gravitational lensing shear measurements

Benjamin Giblin et al.

Summary: This study presents weak lensing shear catalogues from the KiDS-1000 survey, evaluating the accuracy of the PSF model and validating the shear estimates. No significant non-lensing B-mode distortions were found in the data, with low amplitude of PSF residuals detected in the highest-redshift bins. The joint KiDS-1000 shear and photometric redshift calibration is deemed sufficiently robust for combined-probe gravitational lensing and spectroscopic clustering analyses.

The PAU Survey: an improved photo-z sample in the COSMOS field

Alex Alarcon et al.

Summary: We have presented and made publicly available accurate and precise photometric redshifts for objects with i(AB) <= 23 in the ACS footprint from the COSMOS field. By combining narrow-band photometry from PAUS and 26 bands from the COSMOS2015 catalogue, a new method was introduced to model spectral energy distributions and compute redshifts. The photometric redshifts were found to be more precise and very accurate compared to previous estimates, showcasing the impact of the added PAUS data and new methodology.

Galaxy clustering in the DESI Legacy Survey and its imprint on the CMB

Qianjun Hang et al.

Summary: Using data from the DESI Legacy Survey, research investigated the galaxy density field in tomographic slices covering the redshift range 0 < z < 0.8. Cross-correlation analysis of photometric redshifts and CMB maps revealed the growth of structure since z = 0.8. In the context of Lambda CDM, a reduction in fluctuation normalization or matter density was found to be necessary based on the results from lensing and CMB analysis.

KiDS-1000 Cosmology: Constraints beyond flat ΛCDM

Tilman Troester et al.

Summary: The study presents constraints on extensions to the standard cosmological model involving parameters related to the curvature of space, neutrino masses, and dark energy. By combining measurements from various sources, the results confirm the consistency of the flat Lambda CDM model and offer tight constraints on key parameters.

KiDS-1000 catalogue: Redshift distributions and their calibration

H. Hildebrandt et al.

Summary: This study presents galaxy redshift distribution estimates for the KiDS-1000 data, crucial for weak gravitational lensing measurements. Utilizing deep spectroscopic reference catalogues and self-organising map (SOM), the redshift distributions were accurately calibrated and validated, providing alternative calibration with only slightly larger uncertainties for cosmological weak lensing analyses.

Organised randoms: Learning and correcting for systematic galaxy clustering patterns in KiDS using self-organising maps

Harry Johnston et al.

Summary: A new method for mitigating observational systematic effects in angular galaxy clustering is proposed, involving the use of corrective random galaxy catalogues. These organised randoms effectively eliminate spurious density modes from the two-point angular correlation function, correcting biases and showing promising performance for clustering analyses of faint samples. Each organised random object carries the properties of a real galaxy and is distributed throughout the survey footprint, making sub-sample randoms readily derived and extremely useful for current and future clustering analyses.

Photometric selection and redshifts for quasars in the Kilo-Degree Survey Data Release 4

S. J. Nakoneczny et al.

Summary: This study presents a catalog of quasars and their redshifts derived from the KiDS Data Release 4, using machine learning models trained on SDSS spectroscopy data. The model selection and fine-tuning process identified XGBoost as the most robust model for classification and ANN for combined classification and redshift estimation. The derived catalog is suitable for cosmology and active galactic nucleus studies, with successful extrapolation of the model challenging the traditional methods of optimization at the faint data end.

Including beyond-linear halo bias in halo models

A. J. Mead et al.

Summary: A simple prescription is introduced to include beyond-linear halo bias in standard halo-model calculations, with a corrective term demonstrated to significantly boost power in the two-halo term. The magnitude of this boost depends on the specific pair of fields in the two-point function. The improvement in power prediction, especially in the transition region between the two- and one-halo terms, is largely attributed to the inclusion of full non-linear halo bias.

The weak lensing radial acceleration relation: Constraining modified gravity and cold dark matter theories with KiDS-1000

Margot M. Brouwer et al.

Summary: Measurements of radial gravitational acceleration around isolated galaxies using KiDS-1000 data extend understanding of the radial acceleration relation, revealing significant differences between early- and late-type galaxies possibly related to circumgalactic gas. The observed behavior may provide insights into modified gravity theories and the galaxy-to-halo mass relation.

Completed SDSS-IV extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey: Cosmological implications from two decades of spectroscopic surveys at the Apache Point Observatory

Shadab Alam et al.

Summary: Based on the final measurements of clustering using galaxies, quasars, and Ly alpha forests from the SDSS lineage, this study provides comprehensive cosmological implications. The BAO data alone can rule out dark-energy-free models, and when combined with other measurements, significant improvements are made on constraining cosmological parameters within the ΛCDM model. The results indicate that various parameter extensions remain consistent with a ΛCDM model in a combined analysis, showing precision changes of less than 0.6% in key parameters.

Compact galaxies and the size-mass galaxy distribution from a colour-selected sample at 0.04 < z < 0.15 supplemented by ugrizYJHK photometric redshifts

Ivan K. Baldry et al.

Summary: The study selected a sample of galaxies using a combination of SDSS and UKIDSS photometry and accurately determined photometric redshifts. The research confirmed that compact quiescent galaxies are more likely to be found in high-density environments. Comparing with high-redshift samples, it was found that the number density of compact quiescent galaxies shows significant evolution over time.

Dark Energy Survey Year 3 results: Optimizing the lens sample in a combined galaxy clustering and galaxy-galaxy lensing analysis

A. Porredon et al.

Summary: By optimizing the selection of lens galaxy samples and utilizing data from the Dark Energy Survey (DES) Year 3, significant improvements in cosmological constraints can be achieved when combining galaxy clustering and galaxy-galaxy lensing. With the wCDM and ACDM models, the optimal selection leads to enhancements of 20% to 40% in constraint parameters compared to traditional samples. For the flux-limited sample, further gains in constraint effectiveness can be obtained by increasing the number of tomographic bins or including bin cross-correlations.
