Prevalence and pattern of lateral impingements in the progressive collapsing foot deformity

Matthieu Lalevee et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed 72 symptomatic PCFD cases and found that STI and TFI were more prevalent than CFI, with only STI being associated with PTS. Conversely, CFI was associated with less PTS, potentially due to compensatory subtalar behavior.

Measuring standing hindfoot alignment: reliability of different approaches in conventional x-ray and cone-beam CT

Leonard Simon Brandenburg et al.

Summary: The study found that the reliability of measuring hindfoot alignment depends on the investigated anatomical structures. Placing a tangent along the calcaneus was shown to be unreliable, while determining the weight-bearing heel point appeared to be a reliable approach. The correlation of the measurement workflows is significant but too weak to be used clinically.

Reliability of measurements assessing the Lisfranc joint using weightbearing computed tomography imaging

Yantarat Sripanich et al.

Summary: This study designed a protocol to measure the distance between the medial cuneiform and second metatarsal using weightbearing computed tomography (WBCT) imaging to evaluate the Lisfranc joint. The results showed high agreement in measuring the C1-M2 distance in 96 specimens, suggesting that this method may be reproducible and useful in clinical practice.

First Metatarsal Rotation in Hallux Valgus Deformity

Jesse Steadman et al.

Summary: Rotation of the first metatarsal (M1) has been recognized as a potential etiological factor of hallux valgus (HV) deformity. While traditional methods focused on 2D measurements and corrections, recent advancements in understanding M1 rotation have led to new developments in the treatment of HV.

Normative Distribution of First Metatarsal Axial Rotation

Jesse Steadman et al.

Summary: This study aimed to provide estimates for the normal distribution of M1 rotation in patients without relevant anatomic pathology, revealing the mean values and reliability of M1 rotation measured using two unique methods. The results can serve as a normative reference for surgeons correcting rotational issues of the first metatarsal.

The Role of Weightbearing Computed Tomography Scan in Hallux Valgus

Karim Mahmoud et al.

Summary: In patients with hallux valgus (HV), weightbearing computed tomography (WBCT) was used to evaluate the hyperpronation of the first metatarsal. The alpha angle, a measure of abnormal hyperpronation, was found to be an independent factor associated with HV and other parameters, but had limited diagnostic utility when used alone. WBCT was identified as a useful method for assessing hyperpronation and guiding surgical management in individual cases.
