Benzodiazepines and antidepressants: Effects on cognitive and functional decline in Alzheimer's disease and Lewy body dementia

Miguel German Borda et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effects of benzodiazepines and antidepressants prescription on cognitive and functional decline in older adults with AD and LBD. The results showed that the combination of benzodiazepines and antidepressants was associated with faster functional decline in LBD patients, while BZD and BZD-ADep prescription was linked to greater functional deterioration in AD patients. ADep alone did not have significant positive or negative associations with the outcomes.

Association of Malnutrition with Functional and Cognitive Trajectories in People Living with Dementia: A Five-Year Follow-Up Study

Miguel German Borda et al.

Summary: The study found that malnutrition in older adults with dementia is associated with faster functional decline but not cognitive decline. Malnutrition at diagnosis and during follow-up was a significant predictor of functional decline, highlighting the importance of nutritional assessments in improving prognosis for dementia patients.
