SARS-CoV-2 has the advantage of competing the iMet-tRNAs with human hosts to allow efficient translation

Yan Wang et al.

Summary: Viruses like SARS-CoV-2 have evolved to compete for iMet-tRNAs with host mRNAs, allowing for faster translation initiation and replication. This advantage compensates for the lower tAI of viral genes, enabling rapid reproduction within host cells.

Tuning the Pt species on Nb2O5 by support-induced modification in the photocatalytic transfer hydrogenation of phenylacetylene

Kaiyi Su et al.

Summary: The study reported the tuning of dominant products in the photocatalytic hydrogen transfer reaction over Pt/Nb2O5 photocatalysts using a support-induced modification strategy. It was found that the positively charged Pt (Pt delta+) species over 2D Nb2O5 nanoplates contributed to the reduction of phenylacetylene. This work sheds light on the design and application of Nb-based catalysts in the transfer hydrogenation of organics in photocatalysis.

Hydrogenation and C-S bond activation pathways in thiophene and tetrahydrothiophene reactions on sulfur-passivated surfaces of Ru, Pt, and Re nanoparticles

Edwin Yik et al.

Summary: Thiophene-H2 reactions proceed on dispersed metal nanoparticles via sulfur removal and hydrogenation routes, with reaction steps influenced by H2S/H2 ratios. Strong repulsion among S adatoms leads to partial surface coverage, creating interstitial spaces for catalytic turnovers.

A promising approach to transform levulinic acid into γ-valerolactone using niobic acid photocatalyst and the accumulated electron transfer technique

Jose B. G. Filho et al.

Summary: The photocatalytic production of gamma-valerolactone from levulinic acid was achieved using UV-assisted accumulated electron transfer technique. A commercial niobic acid was used as the photocatalyst, showing higher efficiency in ethanol as a hole scavenger and additional contact time with the substrate. By optimizing the reaction conditions, longer illumination time resulted in higher selectivity towards the desired product.

One-step efficient non-hydrogen conversion of cellulose into γ-valerolactone over AgPW/CoNi@NG composite

Shanhui Zhu et al.

Summary: The efficient conversion of cellulose into value-added GVL is achieved by CoNi nanoparticles encapsulated in N-doped thin graphene shell combined with Ag+-exchanged heteropolyacid, achieving a high yield of 55.9%. The composite catalyst demonstrates high resistance to the corrosion of LA and FA, showing excellent catalytic stability. LA-adsorption FTIR spectra and DFT calculations suggest that FA can rapidly reduce LA due to its low dissociation energy barrier and high dissociation rate.

Tailoring the Reactive Oxygen Species in Mesoporous NiO for Selectivity-Controlled Aerobic Oxidation of 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural on a Loaded Pt Catalyst

Hao Zhang et al.

Summary: A mesoporous NiO-supported Pt nanoparticle catalyst demonstrated efficient and sustainable conversion of HMF to FDCA without the need for a base. By tailoring the reactive oxygen species in NiO, the initial reaction rate of HMF and product distribution could be effectively controlled. The interaction between metallic Pt active sites and mobile oxygen species was crucial for the excellent catalytic performance observed.

MoOx-Decorated Co-Based Catalysts toward the Hydrodeoxygenation Reaction of Biomass-Derived Platform Molecules

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: A stepwise method was developed to prepare Co-MoOx catalysts from Mo/CoAl-LDH precursors. The catalyst reduced at 500 degrees C (Co-MoOx-500) exhibited excellent catalytic performance in the hydrodeoxygenation reaction of biomass-derived platform molecules, particularly in the conversion of LA to GVL. Interfacial Co delta+ sites in Co-MoOx-500 played a crucial role in promoting C=O hydrogenation and C=O cleavage, while the MoOx overlayer helped suppress the formation of byproducts.

Efficient hydrogenation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural using a synergistically bimetallic Ru-Ir/C catalyst

Yinghao Wang et al.

Summary: Activated charcoal-dispersed Ru-Ir alloy nanoparticles, with a size of approximately 2.2 nm, serve as a selective and reusable hydrogenation catalyst for the conversion of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural to valuable liquid biofuel, achieving a high yield of 99% to 2,5-dimethylfuran at only 120 degrees C. The synergistic effect between the Ru and Ir species leads to an acceleration in the reduction of substrate and intermediates.
