Polypyrrole coated molybdenum disulfide composites as adsorbent for enhanced removal of Cr(VI) in aqueous solutions by adsorption combined with reduction

Li Xiang et al.

Summary: The study successfully fabricated PPy/MoS2 composites as efficient sorbents for Cr(VI) removal, showing superior adsorption capacity and cyclic stability. The sorption of Cr(VI) was significantly influenced by pH, with optimal removal efficiency achieved under acidic conditions; the adsorption process was mainly controlled by pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir isotherm model; ion exchange, chemical reduction, and surface chelation played crucial roles in the elimination of Cr(VI).

Fouling of TiO2 induced by natural organic matters during photocatalytic water treatment: Mechanisms and regeneration strategy

Xuejia Yang et al.

Summary: Photocatalysis using TiO2 has been studied extensively for pollutant removal, but the deactivation of the catalyst in the presence of humic acid (HA) was found to be significant. The adsorption of in-situ oxidized HA formed surface complexes with TiO2, blocking active sites and decreasing photogenerated charge transfer efficiency. Regeneration of deactivated TiO2 was also investigated.

Preparation of highly dispersive and antioxidative nano zero-valent iron for the removal of hexavalent chromium

Jinhua Wu et al.

Summary: Using carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) to stabilize zero-valent iron nanoparticles (CMC-nFe(0)) was found to enhance hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) removal efficiency by improving dispersion and antioxidation, preventing agglomeration and oxidation of particles, and effectively blocking oxygen infiltration, showcasing superior performance compared to untreated iron nanoparticles. Lower initial pH and higher iron dosage were found to further facilitate Cr(VI) removal. These findings suggest that CMC stabilization of iron nanoparticles holds promise for enhancing Cr(VI) elimination processes.

First-Principles Evaluation of Volatile Organic Compounds Degradation in Z-Scheme Photocatalytic Systems: MXene and Graphitic-CN Heterostructures

Junhui Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, three Z-scheme g-CN/M2CO2 heterostructures (M = Hf, Zr, and Sc) were designed through density functional theory calculations, showing enhanced photocatalytic activity for VOC degradation. The improved performance is attributed to the low recombination rate of electron-hole pairs, electron migration, and internal electric fields in the Z-scheme heterojunction. Among the three structures, g-CN/Zr2CO2 exhibited superior spectra utilization and direct band gap, leading to enhanced extraction and utilization of photogenerated electrons.
