Effect of electrodeposition parameters and surface pretreatment on the electrochemical hydrogen production using nickel-plated stainless steel electrodes

M. I. Jaramillo-Gutierrez et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the effects of time, potential, and Ni2+ concentration on the amount of nickel deposited and hydrogen produced during electrodeposition and electrolysis using nickeled electrodes. The highest weight of nickel coating and hydrogen production were achieved under specific conditions, with morphological and elemental analyses revealing key characteristics of the electrodes.

Tunable eg Orbital Occupancy in Heusler Compounds for Oxygen Evolution Reaction**

Mingquan Yu et al.

Summary: Heusler compounds show potential as a new class of OER electrocatalysts due to their mechanical robustness, metallic conductivity, and tunability in electronic structure. The reactivity of Co sites in these compounds is influenced by the e(g) orbital filling, with higher catalytic activity observed as the filling approaches unity. Further research is needed to fully understand and harness the catalytic performance of Heusler compounds through manipulation of spin orbitals.

Engineering High-Spin State Cobalt Cations in Spinel Zinc Cobalt Oxide for Spin Channel Propagation and Active Site Enhancement in Water Oxidation

Yuanmiao Sun et al.

Summary: Through density functional theory calculations, it was found that the OER activity of spinel zinc cobalt oxide is hindered by the presence of low-spin state cobalt cations, but increasing the spin state of cobalt cations can promote spin-selected charge transport and enhance active sites for intermediate adsorption. By controlling the calcination temperature to achieve high-spin state cobalt cations in ZnCo2O4, the catalytic activity was successfully optimized.

Evidence of Mars-Van-Krevelen Mechanism in the Electrochemical Oxygen Evolution on Ni-Based Catalysts

Jorge Ferreira de Araffljo et al.

Summary: Through isotope labeling experiments and differential electrochemical mass spectrometry technology, it was confirmed that there is a Mars-van-Krevelen lattice oxygen evolution reaction mechanism in Ni(OH)(2) and NiFe layered double hydroxide catalysts, where lattice oxygen atoms exclusively belong to the catalyst surface and have a fundamental correlation with the faradaic efficiency of oxygen.

Double-Exchange-Induced in situ Conductivity in Nickel-Based Oxyhydroxides: An Effective Descriptor for Electrocatalytic Oxygen Evolution

Bailin Tian et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that doping metals such as Co, Rh, and Ir can alter the OER activity of γ-NiOOH, and the in situ electrical conductivity shows a good correlation with enhanced OER activity. Density functional theory calculations are used to explain the in situ conductivity of metal-doped γ-NiOOH during OER, and the simultaneous increase of OER activity with intermediate conductivity is rationalized by the intrinsic connections to the double exchange interaction between adjacent metal ions.

Seven steps to reliable cyclic voltammetry measurements for the determination of double layer capacitance

Dulce M. Morales et al.

Summary: The paper introduces a seven-step method to reliably determine double layer capacitance using scan rate-dependent cyclic voltammetry, and applies it to two different systems for validation. Results show that neglecting any step leads to significant deviations in the results, and suggests a more suitable regression model for determining double layer capacitance.
