Impact of Gastric Electrical Stimulation on Economic Burden of Refractory Vomiting: A French Nationwide Multicentre Study

Guillaume Gourcerol et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and medico-economic impact of Enterra therapy for chronic medically refractory nausea and vomiting. The results showed that Enterra therapy significantly improved the gastrointestinal quality of life index score and reduced vomiting frequency. It also decreased healthcare costs and resulted in savings for the patients.

EndoFLIP and Pyloric Dilation for Gastroparesis Symptoms Refractory to Pyloromyotomy/Pyloroplasty

Asad Jehangir et al.

Summary: This study found that pyloric through-the-scope (TTS) balloon dilation could improve symptoms in about a third of gastroparesis patients with refractory symptoms after pyloromyotomy/pyloroplasty. Patients with symptom improvement had lower pre-dilation pyloric EndoFLIP distensibility.

Epidemiology and outcomes of gastroparesis, as documented in general practice records, in the United Kingdom

Yizhou Ye et al.

Summary: Through analysis of the CPRD database, it was found that the standardized prevalence of gastroparesis in 2016 was 13.8 per 100,000 persons, while the standardized incidence increased from 1.5 per 100,000 person-years in 2004 to 1.9 in 2016. Diabetic gastroparesis and idiopathic gastroparesis were the most common disease etiologies, with diabetic gastroparesis patients having a significantly higher risk of mortality after diagnosis compared to idiopathic gastroparesis patients.

Assessment of pyloric sphincter distensibility and pressure in patients with diabetic gastroparesis

Charlotte Desprez et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that pyloric distensibility is altered in 30-50% of gastroparetic patients, but the correlation between pyloric sphincter measurements and diabetes characteristics was not found in this study. Both diabetic and idiopathic gastroparesis showed altered pyloric sphincter distensibility and pressure.
