Postpartum Psychiatric Admissions in the United States

Timothy Wen et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the risk of postpartum psychiatric admissions in the United States using data from the Nationwide Readmissions Database. Results showed that a small percentage of women were readmitted for psychiatric diagnoses within 60 days postpartum, with a higher risk among women with psychiatric diagnoses at delivery hospitalization. Women at highest risk for psychiatric admission were those with Medicare and Medicaid, lower income quartiles, and younger age.
