Biases in open-path carbon dioxide flux measurements: Roles of instrument surface heat exchange and analyzer temperature sensitivity

M. Julian Deventer et al.

Summary: Eddy covariance measurements of ecosystem-atmosphere CO2 exchange are crucial for assessing the terrestrial carbon cycle. This study quantifies the impact of open-path sensor biases on carbon and radiative budgets in a sub-boreal wetland. Possible bias sources such as sensor-path heat exchange and temperature sensitivity were examined, with proposed corrections showing either under-correction or over-correction. New correction methods are needed to address these limitations and improve measurement accuracy.
