Static stability analysis of multi-scale hybrid agglomerated nanocomposite shells

Farzad Ebrahimi et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the buckling problem of a multi-scale hybrid nanocomposite shell for the first time while the cylinder is supposed to be rested on an elastic substrate. The effects of nanofillers' agglomeration and the equivalent material properties of the carbon nanotube-reinforced (CNTR) nanocomposite are studied. The results provide insights into the failure behavior and propose strategies to enhance the buckling resistance of the nanocomposite structure.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of steel-plate added damping and stiffness (ADAS) dampers on the seismic behavior of steel shear walls (SSWs). Finite element simulations were used to analyze the effects of ADAS dampers on the structures, and the results showed that the dampers can reduce the pinching phenomenon and enhance the damping capability of the structures, indicating their efficiency in steel shear walls under cyclic loadings.

Investigation of geometric nonlinear stability of sandwich functionally graded (SFGM) spherical shells under uniform external pressure using an analytical approach

Alireza Houshmand-Sarvestani et al.

Summary: This study investigates the geometric nonlinear response of spherical shells made of sandwich functionally graded material under uniform external pressure, taking into account the effects of transverse shear deformations. The equilibrium and compatibility nonlinear differential equations are solved using the modified interaction method, which is developed based on the first-order shear deformation theory. The analysis considers special boundary conditions with movable and fixed clamped supports in the meridional direction, and a closed-form nonlinear load-deflection relationship is derived to describe the equilibrium path of the shell.

Geometrically nonlinear analysis of doubly curved imperfect shallow shells made of functionally graded carbon nanotube reinforced composite (FG_CNTRC)

Mohammad Amin Shahmohammadi et al.

Summary: This article presents an analytical approach to investigate the geometrically nonlinear response of doubly curved imperfect shallow shells made of functionally graded carbon nanotube reinforced composite (FG_CNTRC) under in-plane and lateral loads. The equilibrium path of the shell is obtained using a closed-form formula and validated by numerical methods. Parametric studies are conducted to examine the effects of volume fraction of FG_CNTRCs and geometrical properties on the equilibrium paths.

Nonlinear transient vibration of viscoelastic plates: A NURBS-based isogeometric HSDT approach

Erfan Shafei et al.

Summary: An efficient isogeometric analysis formulation based on higher-order shear deformation theory and p-order nonuniform rational Bsplines is proposed for nonlinear vibration problems of viscoelastic plates. The method demonstrates more realistic solutions than conventional FEA, especially for coarse discretizations. The use of C-3-NURBS improves the accuracy of nonlinear vibration amplitude predictions compared to C-2-NURBS.

Theoretical modelling and experimental verification of modal responses of skewed laminated sandwich structure with epoxy-filled softcore

Pankaj Katariya et al.

Summary: This research computationally analyzed the eigenvalue responses of an epoxy-filled skew sandwich structure using a single-layer higher-order theory, demonstrating its effectiveness in considering various structural input parameters for accurate modal response calculations. Such analytical approach proved to be capable of accurately solving modal responses by accommodating different face sheet layers and aspect/thickness ratios in the sandwich structure.

Isogeometric analysis for a phase-field constrained optimization problem of morphological evolution of vesicles in electrical fields

Mohammed Ashour et al.

Summary: In this paper, the constrained Willmore problem coupled with an electrical field is solved using IsoGeometric Analysis (IGA) to simulate the morphological evolution of vesicles subjected to static electrical fields. The two-phase problem is modeled using the phase-field method, and a modified Augmented-Lagrangian approach is used to satisfy the constraints while maintaining a relatively large time step. The results demonstrate the superiority of isogeometric analysis in solving high-order differential operators and accurately simulating the morphological evolution of vesicles.
