An Algorithm for Selecting Spatially Correlated Ground Motions at Multiple Sites under Scenario Earthquakes

Wenqi Du et al.

Summary: This paper presents an algorithm for selecting ground motions from a database for multiple sites under earthquake scenarios. The algorithm constructs the target distribution of spectral accelerations at multiple sites by considering the spatial correlation of ground motions. It then randomly simulates response spectra and selects recorded ground motions that match the simulated spectra. Validation examples demonstrate that the selected ground motions realistically capture the target distribution of response spectra. The computational expense of the algorithm is found to be generally acceptable. The algorithm can be used for selecting ground motions as inputs for dynamic analysis of spatially distributed buildings.

A Simplified Approach to Investigate the Seismic Ductility Demand of Shear-Critical Reinforced Concrete Columns Based on Experimental Calibration

Chao-Lie Ning et al.

Summary: A simplified approach is proposed to investigate the seismic ductility demand of shear-critical RC columns based on experimental calibration. The method includes establishing a governing equation, implementing a strength reduction approach, and regressing an empirical expression to predict seismic ductility demand. This study verifies the feasibility of the proposed approach and highlights the limitations of lognormal assumption in describing probabilistic characteristics of seismic ductility demand.

Compressive behavior of concrete-filled double skin steel tubular short columns with the elliptical hollow section

Suleyman Ipek et al.

Summary: Researchers have shown great interest in elliptical concrete-filled double skin steel tubular (CFDST) columns and conducted experimental and analytical investigations to provide an opportunity for its inclusion in design codes. A finite element method was used to study the axial compressive performance of CFDST columns, revealing factors influencing their behavior, with the developed model verified against experimental results.
