A dual shape pore model to analyze the gas adsorption data of hierarchical micro-mesoporous carbons

J. Jagiello et al.

Summary: Hierarchically micro/mesoporous carbons obtained by template carbonization were studied using nitrogen adsorption/desorption, revealing unexpected artifacts when calculating pore size distribution with the 2D-HS-SLIT model. By applying a dual shape pore model, a better fit with experimental results was achieved, showing narrower mesopore peaks and eliminating previous artifacts. Additionally, the cumulative surface area values were significantly larger than those obtained with the 2D-HS-SLIT model due to the larger surface area of cylindrical pores compared to slit-shaped mesopores.

Free-Energy-Averaged Potentials for Adsorption in Heterogeneous Slit Pores Using PC-SAFT Classical Density Functional Theory

Johannes Eller et al.

Summary: This study investigates the adsorption behavior in two-dimensional heterogeneous slit pores using nonlocal density functional theory, taking into account chemical heterogeneity and molecular roughness. By determining one-dimensional solid-fluid potentials, the computational demand of the density functional theory calculations is reduced. The research shows that adsorption isotherms in systems with homogeneous slit pores exhibit excellent agreement, but deviations occur in systems with surface roughness.
