In-vivo assessment of a tissue engineered vascular graft computationally optimized for target vessel compliance

Kenneth J. Furdella et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the importance of compliance matching in tissue engineered vascular grafts (TEVGs) for improved acute remodeling. Compliance matched grafts showed better performance in vivo compared to hypocompliant grafts, resulting in reduced inflammation and improved cellular infiltration. The use of computational optimization approaches in designing TEVGs enhances their mechanical properties and overall success in coronary artery bypass surgery.

Development of Small-Diameter Elastin-Silk Fibroin Vascular Grafts

Takashi Tanaka et al.

Summary: The study developed a novel EL-SF double-raschel knitted vascular graft, which effectively prevented thrombus formation and intimal hyperplasia, promoted the adhesion of vascular endothelial cells and cell migration. When implanted into the abdominal aorta of rats, the grafts displayed good patency and remodeling ability without adverse reactions, indicating the potential usefulness of EL-SF artificial vascular grafts for small-diameter requirements.

Summary: This study investigates the role of macrophages in ECM assembly, showing that the phenotype of macrophages influences the formation and characteristics of fibrous tissues. By designing gelatin hydrogels containing cytokines, the shift in macrophage phenotype was promoted to affect the ECM composition and architecture.
