Si@Cu3Si nano-composite prepared by facile method as high-performance anode for lithium-ion batteries

Yao Zhang et al.

Summary: Silicon has been widely accepted as a promising anode material for new-generation lithium-ion batteries due to its high lithium storage density and abundant mineral resources. This study proposed a simple and environmentally friendly method to prepare a Si-Cu3Si composite with coherent phase boundaries, which significantly improves the cyclic stability of silicon anodes. The effects of morphology, composition, and structure on the electrochemical performance of the nano-sized Si@Cu3Si anode were clarified through various analyses.

Designing Adaptive Binders for Microenvironment Settings of Silicon Anode Particles

Haesung A. Lee et al.

Summary: This study introduces the concept of an adaptive binder to tackle the silicon anode challenge in Li-ion batteries. The binder exhibits adaptable capabilities in response to gradual changes in the microenvironments surrounding silicon particles, with reversible and irreversible chemical interactions stabilizing adhesion to the silicon particle surfaces. The adaptive properties of the binder contribute to maintaining a higher charge capacity after repeated battery cycles, highlighting the importance of adaptability in designing silicon-anode binders.

Insights into the Li Diffusion Mechanism in Si/C Composite Anodes for Lithium-Ion Batteries

Xiang Gao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the atomic behavior of Li diffusion in Si/C composite materials using density functional theory, comparing two structural mixing formats: simple mixture and core-shell. It is found that carbon material increases Li diffusion in silicon by about 50%, with the mixture mode showing a more significant boost. The results offer new insights into Li diffusion behavior in Si/C composites and provide guidance for battery modeling and structure design.

In Situ-Formed Artificial Solid Electrolyte Interphase for Boosting the Cycle Stability of Si-Based Anodes for Li-Ion Batteries

Hui Wang et al.

Summary: By forming an artificial solid electrolyte interphase (ASEI) on the surface of ferrosilicon/carbon (FeSi/C) anode through a designed nucleophilic reaction of polysulfides with vinylene carbonate (VC) and fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) molecules, it effectively prevents electrolyte infiltration and decomposition while enabling Li+ transport, thus stabilizing the FeSi/C anode interface. The ASEI-modified FeSi/C anode exhibits a large reversible capacity, excellent cycling stability, and greatly elevated cycling coulombic efficiency, potentially serving as a high-capacity anode of LIBs.
