The plant endosphere world - bacterial life within plants

Stephane Compant et al.

Summary: The plant endosphere is colonized by complex microbial communities and microorganisms, which range from mutualism to pathogenicity. The diversity and composition of these endophytes depend on various factors such as the plant, its organs and tissues, physiological conditions, growth stage, and environment. More research is needed to improve our understanding of the role of microbiota colonizing the endosphere on plant traits and ecosystem functioning.

Methodological Approaches Frame Insights into Endophyte Richness and Community Composition

Shuzo Oita et al.

Summary: The study found that endophyte richness and composition were consistent across different cultivation media types and largely robust to differences in storage period. Differences in endophyte richness, composition, and taxonomic diversity between culturing and NGS were significant, but both methods revealed host-structured communities. Comparing studies with variations in cultivation media or storage period can help estimate endophyte diversity at larger scales.

Cadmium-resistant and arginine decarboxylase-producing endophytic Sphingomonas sp. C40 decreases cadmium accumulation in host rice (Oryza sativa Cliangyou 513)

Cheng Cheng et al.

Summary: The endophytic bacterial strain C40 can reduce the uptake and accumulation of Cd in rice, promote rice growth, and transform available Cd into unavailable Cd, thereby reducing the translocation of Cd from roots to grains.

YSL3-mediated copper distribution is required for fertility, seed size and protein accumulation in Brachypodium

Huajin Sheng et al.

Summary: Addressing the global food security crisis requires the development of high-yielding crops. Research shows that copper deficiency affects grain development in wheat and Brachypodium distachyon. The YSL3 transporter plays a crucial role in copper distribution to reproductive organs and grains, impacting their development.

Biofortification and bioavailability of Zn, Fe and Se in wheat: present status and future prospects

P. K. Gupta et al.

Summary: Knowledge of genetic variation, genetics, physiology/molecular basis and breeding is essential for biofortification and bioavailability of micronutrients in wheat. Efforts have been made to improve micronutrient contents in wheat grain through breeding and transgenic technology, focusing on enhancing bioavailability by studying phytic acid and phytase content.
