The Hippo Pathway in Liver Homeostasis and Pathophysiology

Jordan H. Driskill et al.

Summary: Research on the Hippo pathway has shown its significant role in liver size, regeneration, development, metabolism, and homeostasis, as well as its impact on common liver diseases. Targeting the Hippo pathway pharmacologically may help boost liver regeneration and prevent disease progression.

MicroRNA-15b in extracellular vesicles from arsenite-treated macrophages promotes the progression of hepatocellular carcinomas by blocking the LATS1-mediated Hippo pathway

Junjie Li et al.

Summary: Arsenic, a known human carcinogen, promotes the progression of liver cancer cells by modulating miRNA levels and inducing tumor invasion. This study reveals the mechanism by which arsenic exposure leads to increased miR-15b levels and promotes the proliferation and metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma cells by downregulating the tumor suppressor LATS1.

Hypoxic bone marrow mesenchymal cell-extracellular vesicles containing miR-328-3p promote lung cancer progression via the NF2-mediated Hippo axis

Xi Liu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that EVs derived from hypoxic bone marrow mesenchymal cells can deliver miR-328-3p to lung cancer cells, promoting cancer cell proliferation, invasion, and migration by targeting the NF2 gene to inhibit the Hippo pathway. This ultimately leads to the occurrence and progression of lung cancer.

YAP and endothelin-1 signaling: an emerging alliance in cancer

Piera Tocci et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown the interaction between ET-1 and the Hippo pathway, and the ET-1R/beta-arr1 axis triggers a transcriptional interplay involving YAP and mutant p53 proteins, which function in the oncogenic signaling network. Dual ET-1 receptor antagonists can interfere with the ET-1R/YAP/mutp53 signaling interplay, hindering metastasis and therapy resistance in tumors.

Upregulation of miR-1254 promotes Hepatocellular Carcinoma Cell Proliferation, Migration, and Invasion via Inactivation of the Hippo-YAP signaling pathway by decreasing PAX5

Xu Lu et al.

Summary: miR-1254 is upregulated in HCC and promotes proliferation, migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition of HCC cells by targeting PAX5 and regulating the Hippo signaling pathway. This miRNA may serve as a therapeutic target for HCC.
