Single Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Deteriorates Progressive Interhemispheric Functional and Structural Connectivity

Zhuonan Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated dynamic interhemispheric structural and functional connectivity in mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) patients from early subacute to chronic stages within 1 year of injury. The results showed persistent and time-dependent regional specificity in the loss of integrity in the corpus callosum (CC) after mTBI, with impairment spanning multiple segments over time. Additionally, the loss of interhemispheric structural connectivity through the CC corresponded well to regions presenting altered interhemispheric functional connectivity, leading to decreased executive function in mTBI patients.
