Long-Term Mental Health Effects of a Devastating Wildfire Are Amplified by Sociodemographic and Clinical Antecedents in College Students

Summary: This study evaluated the prevalence rates of major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder among Keyano College students 18 months after the Fort McMurray wildfires. Significant associations were found between various sociodemographic variables and the likelihood of students presenting with these mental health disorders. Further research is recommended to explore the impact of college-based mental health interventions on the long-term mental health effects of wildfires.
