Metabolic brain changes across different levels of cognitive impairment in ALS: a 18F-FDG-PET study

Antonio Canosa et al.

Summary: Using F-18-2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography (F-18-FDG-PET) imaging, this study identified metabolic changes related to cognitive deficits in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients. Results showed frontal lobe hypometabolism in cognitively impaired patients, which was more extensive and significant as cognitive impairment worsened. Patients with ALS and purely behavioral impairment did not show any metabolic differences compared to those with normal cognition.

The European Reference Network for Rare Neurological Diseases

Carola Reinhard et al.

Summary: The European Reference Network for Rare Neurological Diseases (ERN-RND) aims to improve the care and treatment for patients with rare neurological diseases by facilitating knowledge sharing, care coordination, and clinical research. The network covers various rare neurological conditions and works towards establishing a registry to provide a unique overview of genotype-based cohorts for trial readiness.

Longitudinal clinical and neuroanatomical correlates of memory impairment in motor neuron disease

Judith Machts et al.

Summary: Memory impairment in motor neuron disease (MND) is a common cognitive dysfunction that may be involved early in the disease course. Atrophy of the hippocampus and parahippocampal gyrus related to memory performance suggests a widespread involvement of these non-motor cortical areas in disease pathology.
