Review: Mitigating the risks posed by intensification in livestock production: the examples of antimicrobial resistance and zoonoses

W. Gilbert et al.

Summary: The intensification of livestock systems has led to increased access to protein-rich foods, but also brought along environmental degradation, zoonotic disease transmission and antimicrobial resistance genes. Low- and middle-income countries are likely to experience significant intensification in livestock production in the near future, highlighting the need for rapid knowledge transfer and risk mitigation capacity building.
