The enzyme-modified comet assay: Past, present and future

Damian Muruzabal et al.

Summary: The enzyme-modified comet assay has been developed to detect various types of DNA lesions beyond the standard version, and has applications in human biomonitoring, environmental toxicology, genotoxicity testing, and basic research. Twelve enzymes have been employed, with some being extensively used while others less so. Additional enzymes could potentially expand the range of detectable DNA lesions and play a crucial role in understanding the mechanism of genotoxins.

Types of garlic and their anticancer and antioxidant activity: a review of the epidemiologic and experimental evidence

Zeinab Farhat et al.

Summary: Garlic's organosulfur compounds have potent anticancer properties, inhibiting carcinogenesis through various mechanisms such as apoptosis induction and antioxidant activity. Consumption of garlic is associated with decreased risk of colorectal cancer, while further studies are needed to clarify its effects on other types of cancer and the factors influencing the potency of garlic compounds.

In Vivo Genotoxicity Evaluation of a Stilbene Extract Prior to Its Use as a Natural Additive: A Combination of the Micronucleus Test and the Comet Assay

Concepcion Medrano-Padial et al.

Summary: This study investigated the in vivo genotoxic effects of rats orally exposed to different doses of ST-99 and found no genotoxicity in the cells isolated from stomach, liver, and blood. Analytical studies confirmed the presence of stilbenes and their metabolites in plasma and tissues, supporting the safety profile of ST-99 for potential application as a preservative in the wine industry.
