In-thrombus thrombin secretion: a new diagnostic marker of atrial fibrillation in cryptogenic stroke

Ze'ev Itsekson Hayosh et al.

Summary: This study investigated the thrombin activity eluted from endovascularly retrieved clots to diagnose stroke etiology. Results showed that thrombin activity decreased over time in clots from atrial fibrillation origin, while remaining steady in atherosclerotic origin clots. This difference in thrombin activity may be influenced by the clot location and blood flow dynamics prior to retrieval.
