Morphological and Pomological Characteristics of Sweet Cherry (Prunus Avium L.) Grown In-situ under South Mediterranean Climate in Morocco

Mina El Baji et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the diversity of 47 Moroccan sweet cherry genotypes based on 24 morphological and pomological traits. High variability was observed among genotypes, but they could not be classified based on geographical origin. Genotypes with high physical traits have the potential to be planted in modern orchards or used in breeding programmes.

Autochthonous Austrian Varieties of Prunus avium L. Represent a Regional Gene Pool, Assessed Using SSR and AFLP Markers

Elisabeth Schueller et al.

Summary: This study genotyped 63 sweet cherry accessions, identifying 38 distinct allelic profiles and revealing significant genetic separation between Austrian sweet cherry landraces and international/modern varieties. The chosen SSR markers proved highly informative, with an average of 6.3 alleles per locus and above-average expected and observed heterozygosity levels, highlighting the potentially valuable genetic resources present in Austrian germplasm for future breeding efforts.
