Summary: Cities can be used as in situ replicates to assess the responses of organisms to environmental changes. Urban ant colonies were less negatively affected by cadmium pollution than forest colonies in terms of emergence rate and worker size, but not mortality rate. No correlation was found between social traits and cadmium resistance in this study.
