2-Pentylfuran: a novel repellent of Drosophila suzukii

Dong H. Cha et al.

Summary: The study found that 2-pentylfuran acts as a repellent for spotted-wing drosophila and can significantly reduce fruit infestations under field conditions and high SWD pressure. Given its safety and potential as a food additive, 2-pentylfuran may have a use in behavioral control strategies against SWD.

Odorants of Capsicum spp. Dried Fruits as Candidate Attractants for Lasioderma serricorne F. (Coleoptera: Anobiidae)

Salvatore Guarino et al.

Summary: The cigarette beetle, an important pest of stored products, can be monitored using pheromone traps with chili fruit powder as a synergistic attractant. The study found that volatile organic compounds from Capsicum annuum and C. frutescens attract L. serricorne, while those from C. chinense do not. Polar compounds play a primary role in attraction, with alpha-ionone and beta-ionone potentially serving as attractants in monitoring traps.

Antennal and Behavioral Responses of Drosophila suzukii to Volatiles from a Non-Crop Host, Osyris wightiana

Yan Liu et al.

Summary: The study identified seven attractive compounds emitted by the ripe fruits of the non-crop host Osyris wightiana for the spotted-wing drosophila Drosophila suzukii. A blend of these compounds successfully captured a significant number of D. suzukii in the field, indicating its potential for attractant development and pest management.
