An Innovative Risk Assessment Methodology for Medical Information Systems

Antonio Coronato et al.

Summary: Modern medical information systems and devices require stringent risk management activities to ensure safety. The current risk management standard, ISO 14971, is not suitable for modern medical information systems and lacks a quantitative analysis method. This paper proposes a dynamic probabilistic risk assessment methodology that complies with ISO 14971 and allows for quantitative analysis considering the temporal dimension.

Simulation-Driven Platform for Edge-Based AAL Systems

Gianluca Aloi et al.

Summary: The paper introduces a novel simulation-driven platform called E-ALPHA for developing AAL services in scenarios of different scales, supporting both Edge and Cloud Computing paradigm. The platform combines Edge, Cloud or Edge/Cloud deployments flexibly, supporting different communication protocols and fostering interoperability with other IoT platforms. Simulation-based design helps in preliminary assessing the expected performance of services according to infrastructure characteristics and determining the most appropriate applications/platform configuration for real deployment.

An IoT-Based Healthcare Platform for Patients in ICU Beds During the COVID-19 Outbreak

Itamir de Morais Barroca Filho et al.

Summary: The escalating number of patients at hospitals is a global concern, mainly due to population aging, chronic diseases, and the recent COVID-19 outbreak. To address this challenge, IoT emerges as a scalable solution for continuous and reliable health monitoring. This paper aims to extend an IoT-based healthcare platform by integrating wearable and unobtrusive sensors to monitor patients with coronavirus disease, with a real deployment in an intensive care unit for COVID-19 patients in Brazil.
