Explosion characteristics of H2/CH4/N2O at fuel-lean and stoichiometric conditions

Ting Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the explosion characteristics of hydrogen-methane-nitrous oxide mixtures with different equivalence ratios. The results showed that explosions caused by nitrous oxide have the potential for deflagration to detonation transition. The addition of methane increased the peak values of the maximum explosion pressure and the maximum pressure rise rate.

Explosion characteristics assessment of premixed biogas/air mixture in a 20-L spherical vessel

Siti Zubaidah Sulaiman et al.

Summary: This study investigated the characteristics of biogas explosions and their severity, finding that the severity of the explosion increases with higher biogas concentration but decreases with higher CO(2) concentration. The experimental data can help engineers design prevention and mitigation measures for biogas explosions, which are classified as catastrophic events.

A comparative study of the explosion behaviors of H2 and C2H4 with air, N2O and O2

Lu-Qing Wang et al.

Summary: This study conducted experiments to compare the explosion behaviors of hydrogen and ethylene with air, N2O, and O2 in a closed cylindrical vessel. The results revealed that using N2O in the mixtures of hydrogen and ethylene may support unstable combustion on the fuel-lean side.

Evaluating the effect of multiple flammable gases on the flammability limit of CH4: Experimental study and theoretical calculation

Zhenmin Luo et al.

Summary: The study found that adding mixed gas can decrease both the upper and lower flammability limits of methane, with a larger decrease in the lower limit. Under nitrogen dilution, the limiting oxygen concentration decreases with an increase in mixed gas concentration, leading to an expanded explosion triangle and increased danger of explosion. Sensitivity analysis shows that reactions involving active free radicals have higher sensitivity and can impact the flammability limit range of methane.
