Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

Nicholas Chiorazzi et al.

Summary: Patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia can be categorized into three groups based on the severity of the disease, with some requiring minimal to no treatment, some initially following a slow course but eventually needing therapy, and others needing treatment from the time of diagnosis. These patients go through three phases of disease development, diagnosis, and need for therapy. The leukemic clones of all patients appear to rely on continuous input from the exterior to survive and grow, with external influences from the tissue microenvironment and internal genetic and epigenetic changes playing crucial roles in the disease progression.
