Indole-2-carboxaldehydes play a crucial role in the synthesis of diverse indole scaffolds, providing a foundation for the synthesis of biologically active compounds.
Indole heterocycles constitute the structural framework of innumerable biologically active molecules and natural products having drug-like properties and other biochemical utilities. These compounds have been extensively studied by synthetic and medicinal chemists and various synthetic strategies have been established using indole-2-carboxaldehyde derivatives as a starting material. In this review we elaborately report indole-2-carboxaldehydes as a starting material for the synthesis of diversified indole scaffolds in the last decade (2010-2019).
