Improving mechanical and physical properties of ultra-thick carbon nanotube fiber by fast swelling and stretching process

Dong-Myeong Lee et al.

Summary: A post-treatment method for directly-spun ultra-thick carbon nanotube fibers has been proposed to improve structure and properties. The consecutive steps of swelling in chlorosulfonic acid, stretching, and coagulation aid in promoting even distribution and straightening of CNT bundles, leading to enhanced performance of the fibers. The study on the influence of stretching ratio (R-S) on high linear-density CNTFs provides new opportunities for industrial processes to commercialize CNTFs.

A universal surface modification method of carbon nanotube fibers with enhanced tensile strength

Taehoon Kim et al.

Summary: A new surface treatment method for CNTFs was proposed to enhance tensile strength and attach desired functional groups, resulting in an increased specific strength. The surface-treated CNTF exhibited different behavior in resin infiltration and influenced the interfacial shear strength between fibers and resin, with significant improvements in IFSS values when introducing amine groups.
