Does Temperature Contribute to Environment Degradation? Pakistani Experience Based on Nonlinear Bounds Testing Approach

Muhammad Saeed Meo et al.

Summary: Many developing countries, including Pakistan, are vulnerable to global climate changes. This study examines the asymmetric impact of temperature, energy use, economic growth, and water scarcity on CO2 emissions in Pakistan. The findings suggest that temperature has an asymmetric relationship with CO2 emissions, while energy use, population growth, and economic growth have a positive effect in the short run. In the long run, energy consumption and economic growth increase emissions, while a 1% decrease in temperature leads to a 5% decrease in carbon emissions. The study also supports the policy of increasing renewable energy consumption.

Renewable-nonrenewable energy: institutional quality and environment nexus in South Asian countries

Usman Mehmood

Summary: This study investigates the impacts of nonrenewable and renewable energy and other socioeconomic factors on CO2 emissions in South Asian countries. The long-run association shows that economic growth in Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka is not sustainable, while Nepal is achieving economic growth with reducing CO2 emissions. Institutional quality plays an important role in achieving cleaner production in India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, while population growth is lowering CO2 emissions in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Renewable energy is helping to lower environmental pollution in India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal.

The interactional role of globalization in tourism-CO2 nexus in South Asian countries

Usman Mehmood et al.

Summary: The research shows that globalization reduces the negative impact of tourism on CO2 emissions in South Asian countries and can bring innovation in cleaner technologies. The increase in GDP and energy usage significantly contributes to CO2 emissions in South Asia. Therefore, policymakers should focus on utilizing renewable energy to improve air quality.

Carbon Emissions in the SAARC Countries with Causal Effects of FDI, Economic Growth and Other Economic Factors: Evidence from Dynamic Simultaneous Equation Models

Rashid Latief et al.

Summary: The study found through panel analysis that economic growth in SAARC countries has a unidirectional causal relationship with carbon emissions, urban population and energy consumption are causally related to carbon emissions, and domestic capital and inflation rate are causally related to economic growth. Furthermore, domestic capital also has a causality with foreign direct investment.

Does the modifying role of institutional quality remains homogeneous in GDP-CO2 emission nexus? New evidence from ARDL approach

Usman Mehmood et al.

Summary: The study reveals varying interaction effects of institutional quality and economic growth on CO2 emissions in developing countries, with institutional quality reducing emissions in India and Bangladesh but potentially increasing it in Pakistan. Additionally, an inverted U-shaped Environmental Kuznets Curve is confirmed in Pakistan and Bangladesh, while GDP and institutional quality independently reduce CO2 emissions in these countries.
