Summary: In a randomized trial involving 61 patients with progressive multiple sclerosis, treatment with epigallocatechin gallate did not slow the progression of brain atrophy or improve clinical and radiologic disease activity markers, but demonstrated a good safety profile.

Epigallocatechin Gallate in Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis A Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Trial

Judith Bellmann-Strobl et al.

Summary: In patients with RRMS, adding oral EGCG to GA did not show superiority over placebo in affecting MRI and clinical disease activity. Despite indications of EGCG bioavailability, it did not influence immune parameters. However, treatment with up to 800 mg of EGCG daily was safe and well tolerated.
