Herpesvirus Antibodies, Vitamin D and Short-Chain Fatty Acids: Their Correlation with Cell Subsets in Multiple Sclerosis Patients and Healthy Controls

Maria Inmaculada Dominguez-Mozo et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the humoral response to certain viruses, levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D, and short-chain fatty acids in MS patients and healthy controls, finding significant differences in environmental factors between the two groups. The strongest correlations were found with 25(OH)D and SCFAs levels, suggesting potential implications in the pathogenesis of the disease. In untreated MS patients, the interaction between vitamin D levels and SCFA ratio negatively correlated with certain T cell subsets, indicating a possible avenue for future therapies.
