Phenolic Extract of Seagrass, Halophila ovalis Activates Intrinsic Pathway of Apoptosis in Human Breast Cancer (MCF-7) Cells

Harshita Sharma et al.

Summary: The phenolic extract of Halophila ovalis shows potential for inhibiting breast cancer cells growth and inducing apoptosis through mechanisms involving increased caspase 3 activity and loss of mitochondrial membrane potential. In addition, the extract blocks the antioxidant defense system in cancer cells.

Gallic acid potentiates the apoptotic effect of paclitaxel and carboplatin via overexpression of Bax and P53 on the MCF-7 human breast cancer cell line

Nora M. Aborehab et al.

Summary: Despite advances in treatment, breast cancer still has a high mortality rate among females. The study investigated the potential effects of gallic acid (GA) in the management of breast cancer, showing that the combination of GA with paclitaxel and/or carboplatin can significantly increase the expression of anti-cancer factors and promote apoptosis in breast cancer cells.
