Disclosing the emissive surface traps in green-emitting carbon nanodots

Alice Sciortino et al.

Summary: This study investigates the photoluminescence of carbon dots and identifies surface carboxylic moieties as key to their fluorescence. Through various experimental and analytical methods, it is confirmed that the visible-light transitions of carbon dots are caused by electron transfer from nitrogen atoms in the core to specific charge trap states localized on -COOH surface groups.

Static interaction between colloidal carbon nano-dots and aniline: A novel platform for ultrasensitive detection of aniline in aqueous media

Y. M. Bakier et al.

Summary: An ultra-small nitrogen-doped carbon nanodots were used as a turn-off fluorescent chemo-sensor for ultrasensitive detection of aniline in aqueous medium, reaching an exceptional low detection limit. The proposed method provided a simple and interference-free approach for aniline detection.
