Galectin-1 and Galectin-3 Expression in Lesional Skin of Patients With Systemic Sclerosis-Association With Disease Severity

Gabriela Fernanda Mora et al.

Summary: Gal-1 and Gal-3 expression in lesional skin of systemic sclerosis (SSc) patients was lower compared to normal skin, with higher Gal-3 expression associated with severe disease manifestations such as pulmonary hypertension and high skin scores. Additionally, anti-centromere antibodies were linked to increased Gal-1 expression in SSc skin fibroblasts.

Gender-Related Differences in Heart Failure Biomarkers

German Cediel et al.

Summary: Important differences in comorbidities and clinical characteristics exist between women and men with heart failure, particularly in the kinetics of biological circulating biomarkers. Despite observed gender-related differences in plasma concentrations, these differences do not necessarily reflect different pathobiological mechanisms in HF between women and men. The sex-specific prognostic value of HF biomarkers for risk stratification remains an unresolved issue that requires further research.
