Use of Assist Devices to Actuate Pressurized Metered-Dose Inhalers in Elderly Patients with Asthma

Masahiro Hirose et al.

Summary: The study measured the finger muscle strength required to spray pMDI formulations in healthy individuals, as well as in older adults with bronchial asthma. Results showed that finger muscle strength should be taken into consideration when selecting a device for older asthma patients, and the use of a pMDI assist device is recommended for patients with weaker finger muscles.

Assessment of inhalation errors, training time and patient preference for DuoResp® Spiromax® and Symbicort® Turbuhaler® in patients with asthma and COPD

Jordi Giner et al.

Summary: The study found that inhalation errors were common among asthma and COPD patients using dry powder inhalers, with DuoResp(R) Spiromax(R) showing lower total and handling errors compared to Symbicort(R) Turbuhaler(R). Patients also found DuoResp(R) Spiromax(R) to be easier to learn, prepare, and use, leading to a preference for this device over Symbicort(R) Turbuhaler(R) in the majority of cases.
