Analysis of the spatial characteristics and driving forces determining ecosystem quality of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region

Kaipeng Xu et al.

Summary: The quality of the ecosystem in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region has been improving, with natural vegetation slowly re-establishing and progressing towards climax communities. The change in ecosystem quality is positively correlated with the Sanbei shelterbelt and Beijing-Tianjin Sandstorm control project, and negatively correlated with socioeconomic and agricultural factors.

Spatial deconstruction and differentiation analysis of early warning for ecological security in the Pearl River Delta, China

Mengyu Jiao et al.

Summary: The Pearl River Delta has experienced rapid urbanization over the past 40 years, leading to severe degradation in habitat quality, increasing landscape ecological risk, and changes in ecological security partition zones. Future land-use planning and management decisions should take these factors into consideration for balanced development.

Land-use and climate controls on aquatic carbon cycling and phototrophs in karst lakes of southwest China

Yuanyuan Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impacts of deforestation and catchment development on aquatic carbon cycling and phototrophs in carbonate-rich regions of southwest China. Deforestation was found to reduce both inorganic and organic carbon export to lakes, leading to a decline in carbon storage in aquatic systems. Cultural eutrophication, on the other hand, increased primary production and organic carbon levels in the lakes. Additionally, regional warming was associated with changes in diatom composition in the lakes, likely due to enhanced thermal stability.

Assessment of Land Ecological Security and Analysis of Influencing Factors in Chaohu Lake Basin, China from 1998-2018

Mingxin Wen et al.

Summary: The study observed significant land use changes in the Chaohu Lake Basin from 1998 to 2018, with urban land expansion leading to a decrease in other land use types. Land ecological security (LES) levels varied at the administrative district scale, with anthropogenic factors having a stronger influence on LES than natural factors.

Effects of using different urban parametrization schemes and land-cover datasets on the accuracy of WRF model over the City of Ottawa

Abhishek Gaur et al.

Summary: In this study, the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model was used to investigate urban microclimate in Ottawa. It was found that the multilayer urban canopy model (UCM) was more accurate than the bulk scheme in simulating near-surface wind speed, relative humidity, and total precipitation. Using higher resolution land use-land cover data further improved the simulation results.

Elias Rodrigues da Cunha et al.

Summary: The study aimed to analyze the future changes in land use and land cover in the native vegetation areas of the Cerrado/Atlantic forest ecotone in the Prata River basin. The results showed potential advancements in crop agriculture and decreases in wetlands, savannahs, riparian forests, seasonal semideciduous forests, and wet grasslands, which could lead to loss of biodiversity in the area.
