Effective Scalar Potential in Asymptotically Safe Quantum Gravity

Christof Wetterich

Summary: This study computes the effective potential for scalar fields in asymptotically safe quantum gravity, finding that the scaling potential and other scaling functions can generalize the fixed point values of renormalizable couplings, and providing evidence for phenomena such as spontaneous symmetry breaking induced by non-vanishing gauge couplings.

Symmetries in Quantum Field Theory and Quantum Gravity

Daniel Harlow et al.

Summary: This paper refines and establishes a set of old conjectures about symmetries in quantum gravity using the AdS/CFT correspondence. It shows the absence of bulk global symmetries in AdS/CFT and discusses how long-range bulk gauge symmetries lead to global boundary symmetries. The results are extended to higher-form symmetries and the weak gravity conjecture is applied to more general gauge groups.

Flavor anomalies from asymptotically safe gravity

Kamila Kowalska et al.

Summary: By utilizing the framework of asymptotically safe quantum gravity, predictions for scalar leptoquark solutions to the b.s and b.c flavor anomalies were derived. The presence of an interactive UV fixed point in the system imposed boundary conditions at the Planck scale, narrowing down the allowed leptoquark mass range. Gravity-driven solutions for b.s anomalies predict a leptoquark mass of 4-7 TeV, within reach of future high-energy colliders, while solutions for b.c anomalies predict a leptoquark mass at the edge of current LHC bounds. Complementary signatures are expected in flavor observables.

Global symmetry, Euclidean gravity, and the black hole information problem

Daniel Harlow et al.

Summary: This paper argues for a close connection between the absence of global symmetries in quantum gravity and a unitary solution to the black hole information problem. By analyzing recent calculations on evaporating black holes and discussing low-dimensional quantum gravity theories, the argument against global symmetries is extended to more realistic theories.

New early dark energy

Florian Niedermann et al.

Summary: New measurements of the expansion rate of the Universe have led to a crisis in the standard cosmological model. By proposing a model with early dark energy, a significant improvement in fitting measurements of the cosmic microwave background, baryonic acoustic oscillations, and supernovae has been achieved compared to the standard cosmological model without early dark energy.

Summary: The study indicates that quantum gravitational fluctuations may drive scalar potentials towards flatness, asymptotic safety can rule out parameter space in scalar dark matter models, and nonminimal Higgs-curvature coupling may be constrained.
