Model evaluation and uncertainties in projected changes of drought over northern China based on CMIP5 models

Xi Lu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the projection and uncertainties of drought change in northern China using different model ensembles and emission scenarios. The results show that some areas will experience worsened drought conditions in the mid and late 21st century, while others will see reductions or stability in drought severity. The contribution of precipitation and potential evapotranspiration to aridity index change plays a key role, leading to different uncertainties in different regions.

Projected changes in extreme precipitation indices from CORDEX simulations over Ethiopia, East Africa

Getachew Tegegne et al.

Summary: The study predicts significant changes in precipitation extremes in most parts of Ethiopia in the coming years, including an increase in both droughts and floods frequencies, especially in the southern region. This will have negative impacts on food and water security, but could also potentially increase dry season agricultural productivity and reduce flood occurrences through efficient irrigation systems.

Evaluation of precipitation in CMIP6 over the Yangtze River Basin

Ying Li et al.

Summary: The study found that CMIP6 models generally captured the increasing pattern of precipitation from the source region to the lower reaches of the Yangtze River basin, but with a significant wet bias. Most models exhibited an increasing trend in precipitation in the northwest part of the basin during 1961-2014, but displayed large spatial discrepancies in other regions. Future projections show that precipitation over the Yangtze River basin will continue to increase under both scenarios, but the rate of increase will vary between near term and long term periods.

Evaluation of CMIP5 Climate Models Using Historical Surface Air Temperatures in Central Asia

Yufei Xiong et al.

Summary: The study shows that CMIP5 climate models can reasonably capture the spatial distribution characteristics of surface air temperature in central Asia, but they are not accurate in describing the regional details of climate change impacts. Some models can better simulate the high- and low-value centers and the contour distribution of surface air temperature.

Spatiotemporal variations of extreme precipitation and its potential driving factors in China's North-South Transition Zone during 1960-2017

Liyuan Wang et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the spatiotemporal variations of extreme precipitation events in the Qinba mountains, finding different trends in extreme precipitation in the region; extreme precipitation increased in the eastern part while decreased in the western part; altitude, longitude, and latitude have a significant impact on extreme precipitation; atmospheric circulation patterns and ENSO also play a crucial role in extreme precipitation variations.
