Microdisk lasers on an erbium-doped lithium-niobite chip

Summary: As a crucial building block in integrated photonics, lasers are in short supply. This paper demonstrates an erbium-doped LNOI laser with high performance in the 1550-nm band utilizing microdisk cavities. The threshold and conversion efficiency of the laser are measured to be lower than 1 mW and 6.5x10(-5)%, respectively, benefiting the development of integrated photonics based on LNOI.

On-chip erbium-doped lithium niobate microcavity laser

Summary: The commercialization of lithium niobate on insulator (LNOI) wafers has led to significant on-chip photonic integration applications due to its exceptional photonic, acousto-optic, electro-optic, and piezoelectric properties. High-Q erbium-doped LNOI microdisk was fabricated on a silicon substrate, demonstrating C-band laser emission with impressive thermal stability. This microlaser is expected to play a crucial role in the photonic integrated circuits of the lithium niobate platform.
