Effect of hydrolysis time on the morphological, physical, chemical, and thermal behavior of sugar palm nanocrystalline cellulose (Arenga pinnata (Wurmb.) Merr)

R. A. Ilyas et al.

Summary: In this study, sugar palm nanocrystalline celluloses (SPNCCs) were isolated from sugar palm fiber (SPF) through acid hydrolysis at different reaction times. It was found that a shorter reaction time tended to produce SPNCC with higher thermal stability.

Internally stiffened foam-filled carbon fiber reinforced composite tubes under impact loading for energy absorption applications

Tamer A. Sebaey et al.

Summary: Fiber reinforced plastics filled with polyurethane foam are widely used as energy absorbers for safety enhancement. The study found that using PU foam inside CFRP composite tubes increases peak load and energy absorption, while internal CFRP reinforcements do not significantly improve energy absorption but do improve peak load.

An efficient model for laminated composite thin-walled beams of open or closed cross-section and with or without in-filled materials

Azizul Islam et al.

Summary: The paper introduces a new modeling technique for accurately predicting the complex behavior of thin-walled beams made of fiber-reinforced laminated composite materials, which is computationally efficient and decomposes the 3D stress analysis into 2D and 1D problems. The technique is not limited to thin-walled beams and can also be applied to beams with different cross-sectional geometries.

Low-velocity impact response of tube-reinforced honeycomb sandwich structure

Yunwei Zhang et al.

Summary: By filling the honeycomb holes with metallic tubes, the load carrying capacity and impact resistance of the honeycomb sandwich structure are improved, leading to a more uniform distribution of stresses and deformations. The tube-reinforced structure absorbs impact energy more quickly and significantly reduces front face-sheet deformation.
