'When we were children we had dreams, then we came to Dhaka to survive': urban stories connecting loss of wellbeing, displacement and (im)mobility

Sonja Ayeb-Karlsson

Summary: This study investigates the connections between urban climate-induced loss of wellbeing and (im)mobility in Bhola Slum, Dhaka, Bangladesh, revealing that residents' loss of belonging and social value drives a desire to return home. While some feel more liberated after moving, there is also an increased risk of social punishment and stigma. Women reported feeling more unsafe, depressed, and anxious in the compromised living conditions, which also led to mental and physical health issues.
