Association of the COVID-19 lockdown with smoking, drinking and attempts to quit in England: an analysis of 2019-20 data

Summary: Following the March 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, smokers and high-risk drinkers in England were more likely than before lockdown to report trying to quit smoking or reduce alcohol consumption. Rates of smoking cessation and use of remote cessation support were higher post-lockdown, while high-risk drinking prevalence increased and use of evidence-based support for alcohol reduction decreased without a compensatory increase in remote support.

Eating Habits and Lifestyles during the Initial Stage of the COVID-19 Lockdown in China: A Cross-Sectional Study

Summary: The study found that during the COVID-19 lockdown in China, a significant number of residents increased their snack intake, reduced physical activity, and had longer sleep duration. Those who always stayed at home or worked from home were more likely to increase their intake of certain foods, snacks, and skip breakfast. Recommendations were made to encourage people to reduce snack consumption, maintain regular breakfast intake, and increase physical activity during future lockdowns.
