Identifying Environmental Determinants Relevant to Health and Wellbeing in Remote Australian Indigenous Communities: A Scoping Review of Grey Literature

Amal Chakraborty et al.

Summary: The high prevalence of preventable infectious and chronic diseases in Australian Indigenous populations is a major public health concern, with a lack of research on the role of built and socio-political environmental factors in remote Indigenous health. This study identified indicators from publicly available grey literature documents for remote Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory, showing the importance of community infrastructure and capacity domains in influencing health outcomes. Utilizing existing planning documents and a systematic classification system provides insights into addressing public health and social policy actions to reduce disease prevalence in Indigenous communities.
