Toward Retrieving Distributed Aquifer Hydraulic Parameters From Distributed Strain Sensing

Yi Zhang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that high-resolution fiber optic distributed strain sensing (DSS) tools can successfully measure subtle elastic rock deformations during aquifer pumping tests, providing hydraulic parameter information. The results show that the simultaneous estimation of permeability and compressibility is possible using DSS data at low noise levels, but estimation difficulties arise when the data contain large noise.

Calculation model of overburden subsidence in mined-out area based on Brillouin optical time-domain reflectometer technology

F. F. Meng et al.

Summary: This study used BOTDR technology to study the deformation and failure state of overburden above the gob, and established a subsidence calculation model considering rock mechanical parameters based on BOTDR. The research results showed that the damage distribution parameters have little effect on the subsidence calculation model, while the tangential inclination of the particle contact surface and friction coefficient have a significant impact on the maximum change in subsidence.

Numerical Simulation of a Ground Anchor Pullout Test Monitored with Fiber Optic Sensors

Carla Fabris et al.

Summary: This comprehensive study investigates the load transfer mechanism of a soil anchor during pullout test using fiber optic sensors to monitor strains, revealing non-uniform load transfer from tendon to grout and crack development verified by peak longitudinal strain measurements. Finite-element simulations show good agreement with in situ measurements, suggesting debonding occurred during anchor pullout test.
