Social distancing beliefs and human mobility: Evidence from Twitter

Simon Porcher et al.

Summary: The study found that beliefs shared on social networks about social distancing can influence individual behavior, while factors such as state orders, number of COVID-19 cases, precipitation, and temperature can also impact human mobility. Republican states are less likely to enforce social distancing, and policymakers can use Twitter data to better understand individual voluntary social distancing actions.
