Genetic Variability and Molecular Evolution of Maize Yellow Mosaic Virus Populations from Different Geographic Origins

Sheng-Ren Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigated the genetic diversity and population structure of Maize yellow mosaic virus (MaYMV) in sugarcane in China. Results showed varying incidence rates of MaYMV in different provinces, with significant genetic variability in MaYMV isolates. The genetic structure of MaYMV populations closely correlated with their geographical regions, indicating low gene flow and significant genetic differentiation among populations.

Screening for sugarcane yellow leaf virus in sorghum in Florida revealed its occurrence in mixed infections with sugarcane mosaic virus and a new marafivirus

Wardatou Boukari et al.

Summary: Sugarcane yellow leaf virus (SCYLV) was found to infect sorghum as another natural host with a high prevalence rate in Florida. The detection of SCYLV in sorghum may be associated with a non-specific serological reaction triggered by an unknown sorghum antigen, as suggested by the experimental results.
