The Preoperative Prognostic Nutritional Index in Hepatocellular Carcinoma After Curative Hepatectomy: A Retrospective Cohort Study and Meta-Analysis

Xiaoxiao Fan et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that a low preoperative PNI was associated with poor recurrence-free survival in HCC patients after hepatectomy. Furthermore, a low PNI was found to be an independent prognostic factor for overall survival and recurrence-free survival rates in HCC patients, especially those with TNM stage I. The pooled analysis also indicated a significant association between low PNI and poor overall survival and recurrence-free survival rates.

Impact of Prognostic Nutritional Index on Postoperative Pulmonary Complications in Radical Cystectomy: A Propensity Score-Matched Analysis

Jihion Yu et al.

Summary: This study showed that a preoperative prognostic nutritional index (PNI) of less than or equal to 45 was significantly associated with a higher incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) following radical cystectomy, suggesting that PNI may provide useful predictive information for PPCs in this patient population.

Risk factors for acute kidney injury in an enhanced recovery pathway for colorectal surgery

Andres Zorrilla-Vaca et al.

Summary: Enhanced recovery pathways (ERPs) have been globally implemented to improve perioperative patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. Research has shown a potential link between ERPs for colorectal surgery and acute kidney injury (AKI). Factors such as age, gender, comorbidities like chronic kidney disease, surgical approach, and low serum albumin level were independently associated with postoperative AKI in this study. Furthermore, a composite of albumin, creatinine, and age was found to be a strong predictor for AKI.

Clinical Application Value of the Prognostic Nutritional Index for Predicting Survival in Patients with Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma Undergoing Chemoradiotherapy or Radiotherapy

Ling Xiao et al.

Summary: The prognostic nutrition index (PNI) has been shown to be an important indicator for the prognosis of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), and is associated with tumor length, T-stage, and synchronous chemotherapy. Patients with high PNI values have significantly longer survival periods.

Prognostic nutritional index predicts acute kidney injury and mortality of patients in the coronary care unit

Yugang Hu et al.

Summary: The study concluded that the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) is an independent predictor of acute kidney injury (AKI) and mortality in patients in the coronary care unit (CCU). The highest quartile of PNI value was associated with an increased risk of AKI, and PNI outperformed other scoring systems in predicting AKI risk and mortality rate.
