Improving health and carbon footprints of European diets using a benchmarking approach

Elly Mertens et al.

Summary: The study found that prioritizing dietary preferences led to slightly higher nutrient richness, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and a high similarity in food intake. Prioritizing nutrient quality significantly increased nutrient richness, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and maintained a moderate level of similarity in food intake. Lastly, prioritizing environmental impact resulted in slightly higher nutrient richness, a significant decrease in greenhouse gas emissions, and a relatively high level of similarity in food intake.
